House of the week: Deer and now

What is it?

39 Deerpark East is an architectually designed four bedroom house in Westport, Co. Mayo

The Spec

Not the standard looking two- up, two- down house you’d expect to find in a small residential cul- de- sac, but then this house is far from average. Designed by Axo architects, this build was once nominated for an award by the Architectural Association of Ireland. The property is home to four good sized bedrooms, all with en- suite facilities; with the master bedroom making use of a generous sized dressing room. There is a strong practicality behind this design, with the L- shaped structure being designed in a way that most of the ground floor rooms can be interconnected and so giving multiple uses for the layout of space. A butterfly roof that collects water for the house along with underfloor heating, air thermal heat pump and black out blinds reinforce this innovative pad. The location is second to none, having easy access to Westport’s town centre and surrounding amenities.

Why we love it?

Clever is one word that this house is. Along with the adaptable living space, the stunning 30ft long glass atrium style roof is a design feature in itself but also an architectural remedy for replacing the traditional style windows, that would otherwise overlook adjacent properties. We also heart the azure blue brick wall that is a statement in the stairwell, whilst making the greyest of days instantly brighter.
