House of the week: Offaly nice

What is it?

Derryad, Killeigh is a three bedroom detached property set in a rural Co. Offaly location.

The Spec

This dormer bungalow residence stands on a beautiful one acre site, in this highly sought after village. The interior is furnished to a show house standard yet attention has been given to making it feel lived in and on entering the property you instantly notice this. The entrance hallway sets this tone perfectly and the striking monochromatic scheme is broken up with the use of oak furnishings. The double aspect living room is warm and inviting, with the huge fireplace surround making a stunning focal point against the brickwork wall. There is also a dining room, main family bathroom and kitchen complete with utility room. A handy addition to this house is the shower room, while the fuel shed at the side of the house is a great storage feature. And talking of features, the under- floor heating and sound system in the living room are just some of the home comforts that add a subtle modernity to the otherwise country charm. The exterior provides this home with a tree lined situation with the grounds being ideal for families to enjoy.

Why we love it?

We love the design throughout this interior and how each room has individual elements which enhance the overall opulence. We especially heart the use of period features such as the ceiling beams and wall panelling, which in places have been reproduced to give an authentic aesthetic. In the living room, the oversized fireplace mantel housing the stove, plays with the scale of this room and allows the large L- shaped sofa to sit comfortably in the space without visually taking up too much space.

Steal the style…

This dining area is a great example of how to combine country furnishings in a modern build. The natural light this space gains is maximised through the lack of window treatments, other than the full length curtains; which when pulled would provide a dramatic backdrop to the dining table. Placing a statement pendant light such as this just above the table, brings an intimate feel to the table. The black beam is sucessful in zoning off the adjoining spaces, eventhough the tiled flooring is kept the same throughout. Placing a country style storage unit like this is an simple yet effective way to gain a stylish storage solution. Place in a group along with similar elements like a detailed mirror and bespoke door to really enhance the piece. Note how the colour scheme has been kept quite simple, leaving the oak wood, black/ grey items and cream furnishings to bring the only tonal variation.
