Interior Design savvy: Mette Kirstine Brinch revamps her Danish home

Many house revamps are a work in progress, but Mette Kirstine Brinch wouldn’t have it any other way. Her passion is interior design, so it matters little that perfection takes time. Mette, who also writes about interior design, is a PR manager for a retro wallpaper firm, so she sees an old home the way a child sees a playground – there are so many new and exciting things you can do.

We bought the house mainly because of the location and because the garden was absolutely perfect. We are close to a forest and a train station and the garden is big, with cosy hiding places and old apple trees - says Mette.
The house was quite unusual, and not very functional. The estate agent had a hard time sellig it, so when it was reduced in price we just had to buy it
I have always loved colour, but thought it was easier to decorate with black and white. But now I am inspired by working in Retro Villa, and am able to just throw myself into new colours and to put them together. You can always change it again if I get tired of it.
I love to innovate with colour, but definitely not with all of them. I dislike red, for example, and would never have it in the house. I stick primarily to bluish and greenish colours, so there is a connection. I think blue and green shades give a cool and calm expression, and green is my absolute favourite.
The house is our big project, and it is exciting to see it develop and get better and better. Sometimes it seems like an infinite project, and I wish that we could get everything done at once. But we also find out that the longer we live here, the better the solutions and ideas we have for the house. I think that as long as we live here, we will always change it. It’s fun to put your own touch on an old house that is filled with history, and we constantly get new ideas for it. I could never imagine living in a brand new house where everything is modern and you can’t really change things
