Online exclusive: Extra shots from Sharon Greene's home

Sharon Greene is one of the brains behind the eclectic Dublin Flea Market. This was previously featured in the magazine, but treat yourself to these exclusive extra shots.

You need a real love for the imperfection of material objects to run a flea market. But it takes a serious cherishing of flaws to buy a wreck of a house with the potential to drain your bank account overnight. Sharon Greene has done both, bringing all the charm of the flea market to the refurbished vintage house she shares with her friends.

The house is a protected structure under the 2000 Planning and Development Act, which means that the interior was protected as well. It was in a really bad state - it was a wreck - so I had to undertake some major works

I believe a bed is one of the most important pieces of furniture you can invest in.

As I run the Dublin Flea Market I often find things by accident when I'm trawling through stuff. I go through phases of collecting things: teapots, jugs, candlesticks and old suitcases. Then when I have a few, I'll stop. I never keep going.

I love all my bits and pieces together. I am a bit of a magpie. I think if I had to grab anything if the house was on fire, it would be all my photographs and some art. The rest I know are just material things that could be replaced

I think people’s perception of second-hand pieces has changed. The emphasis has shifted from a need to have labels and new things. Restrictive budgets are making people more creative and forcing them to develop more of their own style.

The Dublin Flea market takes places at the Dublin Food Co-op in Newmarket on the last Sunday of every month. See Dublinflea.ie for more details.
