Five ideas for indoor flowers

By House and Home 28-04-2011

It’s pretty hard to avoid high-fashion grey these days. Sometimes, however, being super stylish can get a bit dull. There is absolutely nothing to add life and colour to your home quite like a well-dressed bunch of flowers. Bring some post Easter exuberance to your home with the all-season Gerbera in a variety of zesty shades.

Violet volume

Oversized bunches of blooms are a really joyous way to celebrate the good weather. Invest in a substantial vase in a muted shade; try your local garden centre or hardware shop. Purple lilac, pink and blue Anemones and bright pink Gerbera are mixed in a tied bunch to fill this blue-grey vase. It’s a great way to add a dose of life to boring corners in places like hallways and living rooms.

Picturesque posy

Make a dainty statement on your dining table with a pretty posy. This versatile tied bunch could just as easily fit in a vase as well as stand on a dish like it does here. Start with a full mix of pink Hyacinth, Ranunculus and Gerbera stems, then surround them with short cut Calla lilies. Finish with a circle of Eucalyptus nuts and tie.

Standing tall

A little bit of creativity goes a very long way with the simplest of accessories. Get the most from your everyday, innocuous vases, or even leftover bottles, by vamping them up with a bold dash of red. A spring favourite combines with Gerbera in this pretty arrangement. Stagger the Gerbera so that the heads stack one under the other, then add the Ranunculus in a similar colour. Bind with matching ribbon and display in a narrow necked clear glass vase.

Burst of sunshine

Those in the know are accessorising with yellow this season. Make sure your home is ahead of the crowd with the simple, cheerful addition of an on-trend flower arrangement. Roughly stitched sheets of yellow felt surround the vase that contains this sumptuous breath of spring, upping the style factor even further. Orange-centred yellow Gerbera with small flowered yellow Narcissi are packed into the vase creating a voluminous burst of sunshine.

Ball of blooms

This sphere of colour is simple but striking. Take a ball of florist’s foam – you maybe able to buy it from your local florist – and soak it in water until it is wet right through. Drain it and alternate pink Gerbera heads and Calla heads into the foam.
