Cute and kitsch: matching wallpapers

By Jimmy Loughran 11-07-2010

From kitsch children’s designs to traditional florals, matching your wallpaper and fabric designs are the latest way to feature wallpaper as the main interior focus.

Like interactive wallpaper, this is not for the fainthearted, this dramatic effect works well in smaller spaces for a surreal feeling of complete continuity or provides an element of fantasy in a child’s bedroom or play area.

Watelet

Watelet by Designer Guild, €53.01 per roll. This wallpaper from the Nabucco collection features pastel drawn roses with charcoal leaves on a choice of eight vibrantly coloured backgrounds.  The corresponding fabric from the Pavilion collection provides an elegant matching effect whilst still maintaining a fresh and modern mood.

Emperor’s Garden

Emperor’s Garden by GP & J Baker, €58 per roll. From a collection of signature prints, this collection of wallpaper and fabrics have a strong oriental influence yet retain a traditional feel with classic navy blue and rich red matching soft furnishings and fabrics.

Primavera

Primavera by Sanderson, €50 per roll. For a completely kitsch approach to interiors try matching a seventies inspired print wallpaper with fabrics of the same print. The rich colour palette keeps this look from appearing dated and old fashioned and shows how retro colour palettes and designs can be brought up to date with sleek wooden flooring and contrasting citrus colours.

Residence 4

Residence 4 by Cassamance, €79.90 per roll. This paper backed vinyl wallpaper is inspired by eighteenth century art and its muted tones are perfectly complemented by the upholstered chairs from the Cassamance Plains collection and would work well in a hallway or study.
