For design and homewares fans, November gets going with a bang, and we're not referring to the Halloween fireworks.

Yes, it's Design Week 2010, in association with Crown Paints and this year's festival is the biggest ever, with more than 50 events (most of them free) that aim to unerline the importance of Irish design. For us at House & Home, the highlights will include Imagined-Reimagined, where The Cream of Irish Design group will challenge designers to recreate new objects from random items such as boat bumpers and wine corks.

Wayne Hemingway, founder of Red or Dead and design icon, will launch the festival at Dublin City Council's Woodquay Venue tonight, November 1, after which exhibitions, workshops and product launches will pop up all over Dublin city and nationwide, from Waterford and Kilkenny, to Drogheda and Tullamore. For more information, see the website www.designweek.ie, where you can download the brochure and pick the events that grab your fancy. See you there!
