Colourful, chic and child friendly house

Eimear and Marty Wardick have built their own chic stylish child friendly house, with a fantastically white palette.....a perfect back drop for an injection of colour. Having trained as a construction engineer, Eimear’s husband Marty decided to design and construct the house himself, drawing up the plans and securing the planning permission.

Hall:

If the children play on the stairs the glass balustrade enables Eimear and Marty  to keep an eye on them.

When Marty and Eimear were living in San Francisco they found this sideboard abandoned in street in San Francisco. “We took it for practical storage reasons, we repainted a few times then decided to get it dipped, amazingly enough it fits perfectly into the space in the entrance hall.”

The boys love to dress up and Eimear has a large hanging rail for their costumes to be easily accessible.

Living room:

Bright throws from Avoca and cushions from TK Maxx liven up the all white palette. The colourful artwork is by Helen Mathews.  Eimear designed the clock with cups and saucers given to her by her mother and aunts. “It’s like a modern/antique heirloom.  I plan to make more using different designs in the future.”

Dining room:

The large open plan living dining space means the children have plenty of room to run around. The porcelain floor tiles were €80/m2 are by Alan Weber tiling.  The modern white table is from Arnotts and echoes the high gloss units in the kitchen.

Eimear collects old cups and saucers, some of which were given to her by relations. Combined with a floral teapot and cups from Avoca, they make a lovely display.

Kitchen:

The high gloss kitchen looks good and is easy to keep clean. The shiny surfaces reflect light, enhancing the sense of space. The kitchen is perfect for busy family life and with everything close at hand Eimear can easily whip up a mouth watering meal for the family. The red stool is from Kian.  The striking tall lamp on the counter is from Kingsbury Furniture.

The extractor fan from Kube is also used for reminder notes postcards and artwork.

Bedroom:

The bright wallpaper by Osborne and Little makes a stunning statement in the bedroom. Eimear has added warmth and luxury with the throw and cushions.

Caoimhe’s room is simple fresh and a pretty pink chest of drawers and mirror add a girlie touch to the room.

Bathroom:

The bathroom is kept simple with a white suite is from Waterloo Bathrooms. An injection of colour is added with bright towels and a pink loo brush from Next.

Our verdict:

Eimear's family home is a huge modern, white, light-filled space; beautifully accessorised with bright splashes of gorgeous colour. Eimear's all white palette looks great coupled with colourful items.
