Sometimes the perfect house just comes along and all you have to do is move in and decorate. TV producer Traolach O’Buachalla and his partner were lucky to find such a dream home in Dublin 8 and have made it work even harder with some clever storage ideas.

Hall:

Traolach just couldn’t get this house out of his head; despite having planned on buying a house that needed overhauling, he and his partner opted for this perfectly refurbished Victorian beauty. The plain and simple house was the perfect canvas for their eclectic furniture and art collection. Traolach found this Vintage hall stand in Christy Bird on South Richmond Street, Dublin.

Living room:

Traolach has a keen eye for funky, high quality retro furniture, which he teams with an impressive art collection, including quite a few pieces by Joby Hickey. He found the gorgeous Seventies American leather sofa at Wild Child, Georges Street, Dublin.

Traolach believes in buying the best that he can afford, and saving to buy quality art and furniture rather than buying lots of less expensive items that aren’t of as high a standard.

Dining room:

The house contains a real warmth that is enhanced by the proliferation of wood throughout, and added personality with carefully chosen artwork and prints, as well as a selection of framed photos of special people and travel memories.

Kitchen:

This beige lacquered fitted galley kitchen is the only block of furniture in the house, as the rest is on legs to allow light to hit the floors. The kitchen is a neat and streamlined space, with lots of storage and still plenty of room for manoeuvre.

Bedroom:

This bed from Ikea is one of the few pieces of furniture in the house that isn’t vintage. The wooden floors create a feeling of warmth throughout the house.

Bathroom:

The man who owned the house before them worked in set design and clearly had a really good eye, as Traolach and his partner received it in flawless condition. Gleaming bright walls throughout highlight the natural beauty of the house.

We think that the carefully considered décor reflects the personalities and interests of the owners, with not a detail left to chance. Are you a perfectionist when it comes to home decorating - or are you more of 'happy-go-lucky' when it comes to interiors? Tell us in a comment!
