By House and Home 25-02-2011

What is it:
The Treebones Resort, Big Sur, California

What’s so special:
You have the choice of staying in one of their 16 yurts, 5 camp-sites or get really down to nature in their human sized ‘bird-nest’, which is an unusual work of woven wood-art in its own camp-site. But you don’t need to give up all your luxuries, with an outdoor heated ocean view pool and hot tub, a cosy lodge with the ‘Wild Coast’ restaurant and an outdoor sushi bar. To top it all off, you have the best panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean and can even do a spot of whale-watching, when they migrate south between December and February.

The details:
It costs approximately €70 for two adults to stay in the nest, €47 for two adults in the camp-site and €144 for two adults in the yurts, with a minimum two night stay required in most of these accommodations. Visit www.treebonesresort.com to find out more.

Getting there:
Treebones resort is located a five hour drive from both San Francisco and Los Angeles, north and south. Flights to Los Angeles from Dublin with Aer Lingus start from approximately €1315 and cost approximately €1,145 from Dublin to San Francisco, both return.
