Arran Street East interiors homeware irish interview

Laura Magahy, Creative Director & Founder of Arran Street East, tells us about her favourite hidden gems and interiors items she’s coveting

My favourite Irish places to shop for home accessories…

“I love Industry, on Dublin’s Drury Street, the pop-up Sevenwood shop on Dawson Street and Nordic Makers in Dún Laoghaire. I also really love finding handmade things at fairs.”

My favourite online shops for home accessories…

“I love Makersandbrothers.com, Rowenandwren.co.uk and The-citizenry.com is also great. It’s nice to be able to find unusual pieces from small makers around the world, that you wouldn’t find on the high street.”

My favourite place to eat out…

“BiBi’s Café is great for brunch – it’s near where we live and their food is always homemade and delicious. Oxmantown for lunch as it’s our local, beside the studio. Of course, my mum’s house for Christmas dinner, every year - with Belinda’s roast potatoes and Merryn’s Christmas pudding!”

A place I think not enough people know about…

“The Dublin Fruit and Veg Market, behind Capel Street – it also happens to be the home of our studio. Others are Kish Fish in Smithfield, Evergreen Fruit and Veg on Camden Street, Pen Corner on College Green and Enibas in Kinsale and Schull.”

The best places to catch up with a friend…

“I love Balfe’s in The Westbury – it’s convivial, yet discrete and Newman's in Schull is always open for friendly chats.”

The interiors item I’m coveting right now…

“Currently, a Dunleavy Bros. music stand is top of my list – it’s both functional and beautiful.”
