Five minutes with award-winning interior designer Roisin Lafferty

By Aoife Valentine Secor 16-01-2017

Roisin Lafferty is an award-winning interior designer and the brains behind Kingston Lafferty Design. We love keeping up with her Instagram, which is full of design inspo and fun snippets of her life. You've probably seen her on the telly when she was a design judge on RTE's Super Garden, and she's known for how her designs don't conform to a single style. We caught up with her to ask her all about the places you'll always find her and her big interiors loves!

My favourite Irish places to shop for home accessories… “I love White & Green (Whiteandgreen.ie) for textiles, April and the Bear (Aprilandthebear.com) for prints and decorative details, Article Dublin (Articledublin.com) for ceramics, Jam Art Factory (Jamartfactory.com) for prints, Mullan Lighting (Mullanlighting.com) for light fittings and definitely Appassionatta Flowers (Appassionata.ie) for succulents and interior florals.”

My favourite online shops for home accessories… “Nkuku (Nkuku.com) for hooks and knobs, Bluebell Gray (Bluebellgray.com) for cushions and rugs, Zara Home (Zarahome.com) for occasional furniture and cabinet handles, Rockett St. George (Rockettstgeorge.co.uk) for a bit of everything, Graham and Green (Grahamandgreen.co.uk) for eclectic finds and Nest.co.uk for designer classics.”

My favourite place to eat out… “Luna, Butcher Grill and 777 - all concept restaurants from John Farrell. They offer something very unique and different, with an exciting and well-thought-out experience in all three. The Butcher Grill is my local so it’s the perfect spot for brunch, with a Bloody Mary that would rival the rare steak! The interior is timeless and there is always a relaxed atmosphere, with great music and charming staff. In the UK, I love Tootoomoo in Crouch End, London - a restaurant that KLD were privileged to design!”

A place I think not enough people know about… “Inishbofin - my favourite place in Ireland. A little island off the Cleggan coast in Galway, with the best fish and chips, people, music and views! I have been visiting Inishbofin since I was a child and it is still the most magical spot I have been to.”

The best places to catch up with a friend… “For coffee, it’s Nick’s Coffee in Ranelagh (they also generously give free coffee to over 65s). For cocktails, it has to be Peruke and Periwig or Balfes.”

The interiors item I’m coveting right now… “For a real blow out purchase, Kelly Wearstler soufflé chair in black goat’s fur and then the Roche Bobois bubble sofa and ottoman; as comfortable as it is striking. I am also in love with the Baxter Dalma love seat from Minima. I also love the Zinc Cuddler in leather, from French Connection at DFS.”
