Get in touch with your creative side and add a bit of colour to your home these four simple decorating ideas. We recently put these handy tips to use, and this was our result...

4. Jazz up your side table

Jazz up a plain side table with a vibrant colour. We took this IKEA table and painted it in a satin finish, D8.65.50,  from Crown Paints. To get a good finish use an undercoat and two to three top coats sanding down lightly between coats.

3. Make candles from old cups

Buy candle making wicks, dye and wax from your local craft shop and re-invent odd cups and old ceramics as unique candles, like this one we made in an old teacup. For more instructions on  making candles, check out Letsmakecandles.com.

2. Bind up your books

Book binding shops have more to offer than the sombre navy and green finishes used for business documents. Bind your favourite volumes of House and Home in vibrant colours like these lime green and purple examples. We bound these two books for €28 each at The Thesis Centre.

1. Frame something original

Frame a child’s drawing, an unusual print or an old postcard as a thoughtful gift. We picked up this old button card at a market and framed it in a simple white frame.
