These are the top 10 interiors trends for 2018, according to Pinterest

By Aoife Valentine Secor 09-01-2018

If you're anything like us, you probably spend far too much time mooching around Pinterest, looking for home decor inspiration. And it seems we're not the only ones! According to the site’s year-end report, there was a 75% increase in interiors related pinning this year.

Those of us who were on there spend 27% more on decor than people who don't, too. Our purses may not thank us for it, but you can pretty much bet by those numbers that the interiors-mad Pinterest cohort might be setting the trend for things you're going to see over and over this year.

Every year, Pinterest publish the Pinterest 100 - a list of emerging trends they're seeing from what people are pinning from women's style, to food, to, of course, interiors. It's a little look into what they think is going to be big in 2018 interiors trends - and they weren't wrong in their predictions for 2017!

So, without further ado, here are the Pinterest top ten 2018 interiors trends!

1. Sage

Offering a soft alternative in the neutral space are sage green and sage grey. You can team it up with just about any other colour and it'll offer a relaxing base for your room.

2. Resort-inspired decor

Looks like we're not the only ones dreaming of a holiday right now! Vacay vibes incorporated through rattan furniture, palm prints and 'spa bathrooms' are all huge on the Pinterest scene.

3. Terrazzo

Ceilings, countertops, floors and everything in between are in for a lift as this 1970s design classic is set to make a comeback. Terrazzo may have been the forgotten flooring of that era, but it's not about to get left behind this time around.

4. Large scale wall art

The bigger the better with this trend, whether you're planning for some massive wall art, or a custom mural, you're on the ball. There's no need to be intimidated - hanging large scale wall art is what some rooms are begging for.

5. Bone inlay

Furniture and accessories inlaid with geometric bone tiles lend rooms an exotic charm. Even better if you pick up the piece while abroad - more authentic buys will save you from crossing a line into tacky.

6. Herringbone tiling

Applying equally for walls and floors, bathrooms, kitchens and beyond, this pretty tiling pattern is going to be all over the place. Move over subway tiles!

7. Colourful doors

We're seeing bright pinks, strong blues, and soft greens show up on front doors left, right and centre and it's certainly one way to give you more curb appeal. We're into it!

8. Mixed metals

This is one trend that only seems to be going from strength to strength each year. We're not sick of it yet, and going by Pinterest's books, neither are you. Mixing metals is all well and good, but mixing finishes as well with leave you with a look with a little more depth.

9. Statement ceilings

'The fifth wall' - gone are the days where a plain white ceiling is all you can imagine for your main rooms. Wallpaper on ceilings is a growing trend and can be as bold or subtle as you like, and dark-painted ceilings are all in, with an impressive, rather than depressing effect.

10. Patterned plants

Greenery as Colour of the Year only encouraged more and more house plants. There's hardly a room around that won't be improved by a plant or two, but this year we're going to see much more exciting plants with vibrant, patterned foliage.
