Trend Alert: Shibori pattern and the art of dyeing

Shibori, the Japanese technique of dyeing, that dates back to the 17th century, is having a moment. In fashion, Japanese designer, Y's, revealed shibori-inspired pieces within the collection, Resort (above left and right), as did Sally LaPointe  for pre-fall 2017 (above centre). Instantly recognised by its indigo blue hue, we've been spotting hints of shibori, in homes, over the last few months – and predict an all out explosion before 2017 is out.

Design made by twisting and folding fabric, before dyeing, may bring us back to our childhood days of tecnicolour. But, before you have visions of loud tie-dye clothing and interiors, the shibori look is cool in colour and can be chic or boho, depending on how you use it.  We've rounded up some of the best ways people are making use of the shibori trend.
