Calculating the cost of Christmas 2011 - how much will you spend?

We're all broke and getting broker - and no one's looking forward to the budget. Yikes. Christmas is a-comin' too and House and Home's got its finger firmly on the pulse with our brand spankin' new magazine, Homemade Christmas, a zeitgeisty publication  tapping into the trend for DIY with tons of gorgeous make and do projects, inspiring interior ideas and gourmet tips from Ireland's celebrity chefs. Out now, it's just €3.95 and if you're a fan of the festive season, you can't miss out.

Speaking of which, we've got all things Christmas on the brain in the House and Home office and we want to know what you'll be spending on your prep. Last year, a study carried out by TNS on behalf of eBay.ie revealed that the average Irish person spent €548.84 on the cost of the festivities. €312 went on presents, while food, decorations and other festive expenses cost €235.94, but last year parents spent €56.59 less on gifts than in 2009, showing that we are trying to cut back. Are you intending to give your Christmas budget a severe haircut this year?

If so, how will you economise? Is Kris Kindle-style gifting or buying one present per family as opposed to something for mum, dad and all the kids an option? Perhaps amongst your pals you put a €10 or €20 limit on spending? Leave us a comment and let us know how you're aiming to minimise the financial pain for Christmas 2011.
