Celtic Tiger Crimes against interiors continued

Continuing on from last week's post on Celtic Tiger Crimes against interiors, we are going to list another offender on the long list of bad interior design and decorating choices that we made during the crazy Celtic Tiger years where we had (or thought we had) more money than sense. Last week we spoke about the hideous puffy black leather recliner sofa and we did a poll asking all of you if you once owned such a hideous piece of furniture. We were surprised (but skeptical) to find that over 85% of you said you never owned a sofa like it with just over 5.5% admitting that they did! Well this week I'm pretty sure we will weed out a few more offenders with the shaker style kitchen next on our hit list.

The shaker kitchen in a choice of blonde woods, stainless steel hardware, gleaming black granite and stainless steel appliances were the most popular choices at the time. The streamlined simple look of this kitchen style was a refreshing change from the dated fussy cabinets before it and kitchen manufacturers were offering fantastic space saving solutions with swivel corner cabinets, built-in dividers and sophisticated pull out pantries. Unfortunately, the look was done to death and now people are sick of looking at their beech wood cabinets and longing for brighter, colourful kitchens. Of course there are some who still love their shaker kitchen so why not take our poll below, we would love to hear from those of you who have a kitchen similar to this. There are many of us who spent a fortune on our kitchens during this time so we can't justify ripping out the cabinets but we can reinvent them with a few simple touches. Have you reinvented your kitchen? Let us know in the comment section below.
