This is the quickest and easiest cushion cover to make. It’s made from just one piece of fabric with no buttons and no zips! The perfect starter project if you’re new to sewing and a great way to use up remnants of fabric or add a splash of colour to your home cheaply and quickly.

Finished piece:

Materials needed:

  • At least half a metre of fabric
  • Dress making scissors
  • A cushion insert
  • Sewing machine (or needles if sewing by hand)
  • matching thread
  • pins

Difficulty Rating:

  • Basic sewing skills required

Step One:

Cut out a piece of fabric that is 2.5 times the length of your cushion and 2 inches wider than the width of the cushion.

Step Two:

Turn a 10 cm hem on the top and bottom of the fabric using an iron.

Step Three:

Sew both hems

Step Four:

Lay the fabric (right side down) and place the cushion, roughly in the middle of the fabric and fold over both sides, as if you were wrapping a present

Step Five:

Place pins at each corner where the folds meet and remove the cushion.

Step Six:

Now sew both side seams and turn the cushion cover right side out.

Insert your cushion and voila!
