Vintage cake stands are very popular at the moment and it's easy to see why. They add character and charm to any home whether they are serving their original purpose, for display or even for storage. I use a vintage cake stand in my bedroom to hold my jewellery! Make your own vintage cake stand using some old vintage china and some vintage glassware. The cake stand above was made by gluing some mismatched vintage plates of varying sizes onto glass candlesticks.

What you'll need:

  • grab some vintage plates from your Granny's attic; pick some up at a local fleamarket or simply use some coloured plates that you have lying around
  • vintage glassware-you could use candlesticks, wine glasses or even small vases
  • slow drying ceramic adhesive and cotton buds to apply
  • rag for spillages

Steps:

  1. If you're making a tiered cake stand similar to the one above, arrange your plates and glassware how you want them, ie. largest plate for the bottom with appropriate size glassware for the stand etc.
  2. Using a cotton bud, apply glue to the rim of the candlestick or the bottom depending on which end you're sticking
  3. Stick the plate to the glassware and allow to dry.

And you're done! Here are some other cute DIY cake stands for inspiration..
