Visit Two Irish Kitchens in Two Very Different Locations

A well-designed kitchen doesn’t just work for the home it sits in; it works with its surroundings. In these two very different locations, Kube Kitchens created two beautiful Irish kitchens perfect for their settings.

In Howth, a refined contemporary kitchen balances sleek materials with family life. On the wild Beara Peninsula in Cork, a pared-back kitchen allows the dramatic Atlantic landscape to take centre stage. Though the settings could not be more different, both kitchens share the same design philosophy: thoughtful materials, practical layouts and a calm, contemporary aesthetic.

A contemporary family kitchen in Howth

Jill’s kitchen, crafted by Kube Galway, combines refined materials with everyday practicality. A sleek handleless track in a bronze finish sets the tone, anchored by Steel Grey tall and base units. Taupe wall units with integrated LED lighting introduce warmth, creating a calm and inviting atmosphere in the space.

Performance is equally important. Siemens, Neff and Bora appliances ensure the kitchen works as beautifully as it looks, while a matt black composite sink reinforces the contemporary aesthetic.

Stone surfaces add another layer of depth. Dekton Keyla features along the sink and hob run, creating contrast against the cabinetry, while the island is finished in Dekton Marina, bringing a lighter tone that balances the space.

Beyond the main kitchen, the design continues into the utility, pantry and laundry areas. Here, dark grey doors, warm oak worktops and a beige composite sink maintain the same thoughtful material palette while adding practical functionality.

What the homeowner loves about this kitchen

“One of my favourite features is the island. We use it every day, cooking, preparing meals and socialising with family and friends. I love the colour contrast between the Dekton island and the backsplash.”Contemporary kitchen with island

What we love about this Irish kitchen

We absolutely love the secret pantry and utility room tucked behind a door made to match the kitchen cabinetry. It opens to reveal tonnes of storage space and a spacious home laundry, hidden from view.

A minimalist kitchen on the Beara Peninsula

When product designer Philip Joyce left Dublin for the wild beauty of the Beara Peninsula in Cork, top of his wish list was a kitchen that respects the unique landscape.

After years of researching options and visiting kitchen showrooms in Dublin, he eventually found the right fit with Kube Kitchens.

Philip worked closely with designer Nick to create a kitchen that would complement, rather than compete with, the spectacular Atlantic views outside.

“Kube were the only ones who really understood my vision: a simple, pared-back kitchen that allowed the surrounding landscape to do the talking.”

The solution was restraint. There are no tall cabinets blocking the view, no unnecessary details distracting the eye from the mountains and coastline outside. Instead, the design relies on clean lines and carefully chosen materials, including a deep green finish that quietly echoes the colours of the surrounding landscape.

Practical details were equally important. Wide, metre-long handleless drawers maximise storage, while a Bora hob with built-in extraction eliminates the need for overhead units.

Philip also chose a Quooker boiling tap to simplify everyday use, and worked closely with Stone Surfaces to select worktops and island finishes that complemented the calm, understated palette.

Philip’s advice on kitchen design

“Rely on your kitchen designer as much as you can. They know all the small details you'll inevitably miss. And when it comes to finishes and materials, go as good as you can afford. A kitchen like this is built to last.”

What we love about this Irish kitchen

We love how the restrained design choices, frame the stunning views while creating a really useable and enjoyable space to cook and entertain in. The addition of functional lighting and wood cabinetry lifts the space.

What these two Irish kitchens get right

Both kitchens show how thoughtful design can respond beautifully to their surroundings while still prioritising everyday living.

  • Designed around their setting, each kitchen reflects its location, from coastal Howth to the dramatic landscape of the Beara Peninsula.
  • Clean, handleless cabinetry creates a calm, contemporary aesthetic that allows materials and views to take centre stage.
  • Layered materials bring warmth and depth without overwhelming the space.
  • Layouts that support daily life, from generous islands to practical storage and wide drawers.
  • Integrated appliances ensure performance without disrupting the clean architectural lines.
