Chrisy Macleod's fashionable family home

An eye for fashion, colour and texture and a mix of contemporary and hand-me-down treasures have transformed this house into a gorgeous home. “My style is eclectic, strongly influenced by print and colour,” says Chrisy Macleod of Macleod Agencies, describing the interior of the Dublin home she shares with husband Stu and their three sons.

Hall:

Having worked in fashion for 16 years, Chrisy has a natural instinct for colour and texture.  In their 1950s abode, Chrisy’s trained eye and New Zealander Stu’s design flair (he owns The Attic Experts) has resulted in a light-filled and very personal home.

Chrisy frequently picks up quirky pieces abroad. “In Madrid, I go to Musgo on Serrano.” At home, she relishes the opportunity to be creative. “I’ve just got a sewing machine so will be doing bits and pieces with mismatched fabrics.

Kitchen, dining and living zone:

After buying the brick-fronted semi-detached house in Donnybrook in 2007, they added an open plan kitchen, dining and living zone, cleverly angled so that it just doesn’t soak up views of their own garden but also their neighbours’ outdoor spaces. While she likes a clean-lined clutter-free environment – facilitated by the sleek high gloss white MDF kitchen units and concealed storage – there’s a true feeling of depth and heritage.

Her rosewood sideboard, from WildChild Originals, is another precious piece. It’s covered with a fork design table runner from Fleux. Overhead there’s an eye-catching mirror installation by  Fine Design.

We also adapt pieces. Stu took the stainless steel legs off the kitchen table and replaced them with plywood. The advantage is your furniture doesn’t look the same as everyone else’s

We love the combination of the clean dining table and kitsch cushions, which create a gorgeous eclectic look.

Chillout space:

One of Christy's most treasured pieces is a mahogany bookcase from her grandfather’s home.

Little vintage gems are scattered around the home - including this adorable antique telephone.

Bedroom:

Purple is one of Chrisy’s favourite hues and it’s very much in evident from the purple throw  set against mustard wallpaper in the main bedroom.
