Stay on board the Lilla Marras in Netherlands

What is it:

The Lilla Marras lifeboat moored in Harlingen Harbour.

What’s so special:

Having rescued sailors from the North Sea, for over 30 years, this lifeboat has now been transformed into a compact yet comfortable cabin. The stylish floating pad boasts an outdoor cabin, used as a cosy breakfast lounge with unspoilt views of the harbour, town and sea. The swivel chairs and audio equipment in the aft cabin, really show how the standards of a contemporary hotel can be achieved on a small scale. A wooden two person bathtub is a feature in the fore cabin, with the giant water lily shaped bed looking good enough to drift away in. To gain more of a boating experience, you can order a private captain for your stay.

The Details:

One night for two people will set you back €229, with the sailing trip adding an extra €169 to your bill for two hours. For more information visit www.vuurtoren-harlingen.nl

Getting There:

Fly from Dublin to Amsterdam with Aer Lingus, with prices starting from approximately €400, or shop around for the best deals. From Amsterdam you can get the train to Harlingen.
