What’s so special:
The Crowne Plaza at Union Station in Indianapolis is built in the city's former train station, America's 1st Union Station. The Grand Hall is marked with distinctive arches, columns and terrazzo floors and features a stained glass ceiling along with two identical stained glass wheel windows. You can even spend the night in a Pullman train car to get most of your experience. Besides the novelty of staying in the train station, the hotel also has a luxurious health and fitness centre to enjoy while you marvel at the old-school architecture.

Prices for a one night stay in a normal room begin at approximately $199 and begin at $219 for a stay in one of the Pullman train rooms. Crowne Plaza website

Getting there:
Prices are approximately €607 to fly from Dublin to Indianapolis with American Airlines but there are plenty of other options if you shop around.
