We're rarely disappointed when we see a new IKEA collection drop, and the latest PS collection is no exception. PS 2017 is IKEA's 9th PS collection, it's made up of over 50 products designed by 17 designers around the world, and it is beautiful.
Available in stores this month, the collection is full of playful, cleverly designed products. Many of them are doing double duty, and according to IKEA, the whole collection is aimed at 'modern nomads'.
"IKEA PS is for the fiercely independent, for free-thinkers who refuse a work-eat-sleep-repeat life, those who do not seek permission or approval and those who choose freedom and the possibilities that come with it," they say.
Highlights include a three-piece self-watering plant pot that keeps unattended plants alive for two weeks, a folding loveseat that can hang on the wall, a pillow that becomes a quilt, and a no-assembly storage unit, all of which are designed to make transient life easier. The idea is they're things you can easily pick up and move around, whether that's between rooms or from home to home.
Designer Nike Karlsson came up with this storage unit, €75, when he saw some collapsible pallet collars on a factory visit. There's no tools, screws or fittings involved - it transforms from a flat package to this unit in minutes.
Valet stands are designed like the human form to make mornings easier. They're €25 each.
This side table on caster wheels s very versatile and can be used a variety of ways. It's €85.
Would you actually ever get out of those giant round rocking chairs? They're €295.
Another seat from the collection that looks like it would be impossible to leave is this corner chair with 18 cushions. It is €208, while the two seater with 36 cushions is €416.
That storage is actually a heap of sturdy storage boxes from the collection, stacked up. They're €55 for a set of five boxes.
Designer Jon Karlsson wanted to create indoor furniture with the same sort of foldable function you'd typically get in outdoor furniture. "The challenge was achieving comfort, while keeping the simplicity," he says.
The two seater is €145, while the single foldable chair is €95. The side table/stool is €39.
The three-piece self-watering plant pot has an insert that keeps the soil moist for up to two weeks. It is €20.
The collection will be available in stores this month.
