Introducing The Natural Palette

With the weather getting a little chilly and the landscapes transitioning into an autumnal palette of warm browns, beiges and rusts, we thought that this was the perfect time to introduce the next chapter in our colour journey with Crown Paints.

THE NATURAL PALETTE  from our Moodboards collection encompasses warm greys and birch bark whites as well as warm caramels and nostalgic mustard tones.

When developing this palette, we were inspired by the natural slowing down that comes in September. Not only are we settling back into a routine after a summer of activity, nature's taking its break too. The grass is no longer growing at its summer speed, and everything slowly becomes a little more crispy, brown and relaxed. It's almost like the leaves are shrugging their shoulders and making peace with the fact that they'll change and maybe fall and that they've had a good run. Time to put their feet up and chill out for the next few weeks.

Elaine Verdon of Leo and Cici echoes the laissez-faire feeling of the collection by saying "if anything, over the coming months, the desire for calm in such uncertain times, will remain prevalent. Choosing earthy, mineral tones and with nature-infused hues to instill that sense of tranquility."

Along with the natural the browning of the leaves, other concepts that inspired this collection were the cosiness associated with curling up in a cardigan with a latte and an age-stained book. Or filling up a wicker basket with chopped firewood, and drizzling some honey over a warming bowl of porridge. Maybe even breaking a cinnamon stick to allow the aroma to fill the space with the quintessential scent of comfort.

When asked about incoming trends, Roisin Lafferty, Founder and Creative Director at Kingston Lafferty Design had this to say;

"There is a focus on a natural, raw and organic aesthetic in a lot of international design currently. This includes a lot of polished plaster, plaster effect paint, terracotta and clay products and look for a warm and earthy look. This earthenware filters through to furniture and accessories as well as walls and ceilings. Paint is emulating these natural colour tones where the materials cannot be used."

In terms of usability, this palette is probably among the most "foolproof" of the collection. No matter the type of room, period of the property or existing features, these mellow neutrals will always look good. These colours are calm, warm and homely. They are designed to tie in well with some of the stronger colours and patterns making their way into our homes now, as well as natural materials in the home such as wood, cork, weaves and rattans. So not only will they offer a relaxing ambiance, you can feel relaxed in using them too!

We hope you love using this collection as we loved making it. If you do, please tag both @houseandhomemagazine and @crownpaintsireland on Instagram and use hashtags #moodboardsIRL and #togetherwearebrilliant. And don’t forget to check out the other colours in our Crown Paints collaboration here.
