Cilit Bang cleaning product competitions, the sun peeking its way out from behind leaden clouds on occasion for the first time in months and highlighting the grimy paintwork we were getting away with all winter - it's safe to say that at House and Home HQ we've got spring cleaning on our minds.
We're a bit crap at it to be honest though. Oh, and more than a little lazy, did we mention that? So we've been polling you all for your best cleaning tips, cheats and tricks and you've risen to the occasion. Take it away, Houseandhome.ie readers, you clever bunch of neat-freaks!

- Could you combine this tip with a hangover maybe? Niamh Barron recommends "to clean a toilet bowl put an Alka Seltzser down the toilet - the fizzing action really cleans the bowl. Finish off with the juice from half a lemon for a fresh smell"

- Clare Daly's tip is simple but effective: "Boil vinegar in the kettle to descale it"
- Sylvia Timoney, one of our Facebook fans, had lots of great tips for cheap ingredients: "Bicarbonate for everything! Sprinkle on the beds, the furniture, carpet - l leave for a couple of hours, as a matter of fact if you walk it into the carpet it's even better! It's so fresh! Tree oil or lemongrass on the mattresses as well. Boiling water and dry towel to clean porcelain tiles, a drop of lemon to get rid of any cleaning reisidue: continuous sparkling tiles!"
- Over on Facebook, Leah Harrington was a mine of information. "To get rid of stickers or anything like it put mayonnaise all over it, leave for 30 minutes or so then just wipe it away, brilliant. Cleaning a leather sofa just use a bar of white soap (I used Dove) wrapped in a white cloth. Wet it in warm water and start cleaning your leather sofa. Really works a treat, and afterwards just use warm water, another clean white cloth and just clean down over area." She had another tip for us too: "This time of year garden moss on your path a problem? Just sprinkle with salt daily and watch it disappear! Also for natural air fresher sprinkle some lemon, lemon grass onto your radiator(s) and when you turn the heat on it smells lovely, or even sprinkle onto a soft furnishing you may have hanging up"
- "To clean your microwave get a bowl of cold water," says Angie Higgins, who instructs, "add a slice of lemon and place in your microwave. Turn on the microwave at the highest setting for 3 minutes. Remove the bowl - take care it will be hot. Then just wipe out the microwave, all surfaces including inside the door and under the plate. Remove the plate and clean it separately"
- Emer's got pet-cleaning help. "My furry friends make me mad with pet hairs they leave all over the house so my trick is to put on a wet rubber dishwashing glove and wipe your hand over surfaces. The hair will stick right to it! It's great and makes the place so much cleaner!"
- Aideen advises that you "never go upstairs empty handed! There is always something to be put away"

But our favourite tip has to go to Houseandhome.ie commenter Lorraine B who left us this gem:
