Why don’t you love me? Devices left in the dark

By Digital Editor 04-07-2011

We might not be over the recession hump just yet but according to new research in the U.K, having the latest gadget is still a top priority. According to results gathered by the British Heart Foundation (BHF), up to 60% of people see the newest and snazziest electricals as status symbols.

But what happens to the old appliances taking cover in the closet or the drawer no one dares to venture? The ‘fast fashion’ times we all live in means that more than half of people admit that there is at least one electrical item they never use.

Last year the BHF raised up to £22 million in funds put towards the awareness and prevention of heart disease- through the donation of unwanted appliances, clothes, books and accessories. This July, along with Currys and PC World, people all over the UK are urged to put their unwanted electricals to use by dropping them off to any of the many collection points.

In return, donators will receive a 5% voucher to spend on new products as well as the chance to win £1000’s worth of prizes.

So, whether you’re living in the UK or have friends and family there, make them aware of  a great cause that will also free up some space for the latest must have gadgets.

And the winners of the least loved appliances are…

  1. Smoothie maker
  2. Sandwich toaster
  3. Food processer
  4. Bread maker
  5. Foot spa
  6. Curling tongs
  7. Digital photo frame
  8. Video game console
  9. MP3 player
  10. Hi-fi

So, what tops your list? Do you have a sad sandwich toaster or a forlorn foot spa? Is your once high flying Hi-fi, now gathering dust?

Leave your comments below and lets see which of our once wonderful appliances, would now make the Irish top ten…
