House of the Week: A mix of traditional and contemporary in Straffan, Kildare

The Spec..

The natural stone exterior is what grabbed our attention when we first came across this house that's for sale in Straffan, Co. Kildare. It's a 4000 square foot home that was built only four years ago (I think it looks a lot older, what do you think?) It's only 15 minutes from Newlands Cross so it would be such a great location for commuters to Dublin. It has five bedrooms and it's obvious a lot of thought and care has been put into the design of this house as it's finished to a really high standard.

What we love...

This is the large entrance hall with fab curved stairs. I love that the hall stretches to the back of the house and you can see right through to the garden as you walk in the front door.

The rooms are spacious and nicely decorated with a mixture of traditional and contemporary furniture. This living room looks so cosy and welcoming.

Our favourite room of the house has got to be this gorgeous kitchen. Look at all that daylight! The painted in-frame kitchen is beautifully laid out and has everything you could ever need (and dream of) including a farm house sink and Aga. There's a lovely eclectic mixture of furniture styles here and that timber-clad vaulted ceiling is incredible.

The paint colours are muted and neutral and really enhance the sense of space don't they? This sun room would be a lovely place to chill out with friends wouldn't it?

The bathroom is a lovely mix of traditional and contemporary with Edwardian bathroom fixtures, high cistern toilet mixed with contemporary tiling and accessories.

The bedrooms are really nicely decorated with antiques and french painted furniture. How cute are the twin french beds in the children's room?

The sunroom opens onto this cool American-style covered porch at the back of the house which would be perfect for barbeques with family and friends without the fear of getting drenched if the weather suddenly decided to change which it so often does in this country! Also a perfect spot for reading a book in peace or enjoying a glass of wine after a long day.
