We recently named Field Day among our top Irish candle brands, and they're not just a new favourite for us. Field Day was created 15 years ago, but up until recently was known and loved under the moniker Bog Standard. To celebrate the move to their new name, our pals there have given us a massive hamper of Field Day goodies worth €125 to give away.
A Co. Down-born woman, Alix Mulholland, is the brains behind the brand, which bases its scented candles, fine soaps, hand care and home fragrance collections on Ireland's natural heritage - think wildflower woodlands and windblown coastlines, cosy log fires, stone walls covered in brambles, the smell of freshly cut grass and freshly laundered linen. With the rebrand, Alix also decided to refresh some of the company's most-loved fragrances, with Sea getting a zingy makeover, and Field now containing more grass notes.
They are one of the more affordable options on our list of candle faves, but that doesn't make them feel any less premium. Candles start from €10.95, and contain a fragrance content of 9%, which is huge compared to an industry average of around 3-5%. Their reed diffusers (€23.95) have a 30% fragrance content and use white fibre reeds to cast a long lasting scent, while their soaps (€6.95) are triple milled and made from natural palm oil and glycerine, resulting in creamy, long-lasting bars of soap. No corners are being cut here, despite the wallet-friendly price tags.
The Field Day range is stocked in over 250 stores in Ireland and the UK, including the Kilkenny Group, Arnotts, Meadows and Byrne, Blarney Woollen Mills and a whole string of independent giftware shops, and their own website, which ships worldwide.
