What's your festive decor style? Four Christmas decor looks to suit any home

By Aoife Valentine Secor 08-12-2017

December 8th marks the day that, traditionally, most people started to put up their Christmas decor. While we're seeing Christmas decorations fly up earlier and earlier each year, we're also seeing more and more deviations from traditional Christmas decor style, which is very exciting.

We've pulled together four tailored looks for a Christmas that's sure to make a statement, and we're sure most homes will fit into one or two of these categories. Which are you?

Bold and Brave

If you love a dark interior, the best way to dress it, is to either match it or contrast it. Large pieces of foliage strewn across the mantle, deep greenery decorated candleholders and a roaring fire will get you on the right track, if you’re feeling brave. On the opposite end, seek out white, crisp decorations and set them against your moody walls, for a look that will really pop.

How to steal the style:

  1. Triangular candle holder, €14.99, H&M
  2. Winter berry light up wreath, €28, Marks & Spencer
  3. Set of six crackers, €13.50, Next
  4. Copper and navy bauble, €6.80, House of Fraser

Chic and Minimalist

Alternative Christmas trees are appealing to many of us – especially if space is tight or young children or pets rule the roost. Decorate branches, pieces of wood or simply just your walls, to pay homage to the festive season – alternative decor won’t require much clean up come January 6th, and can look impressive against an already minimalist back drop.

How to steal the style:

  1. A by Amara decorative branch tree, €64, Amara.com
  2. Hanging wire star light, €6, Penneys
  3. Candle holder, €24, April and the Bear
  4. Orbit star, €6.80, House of Fraser

White and Scandi

Dream of a white Christmas and mix in the traditions of Northern Europe with glitter, reindeer motifs and soft faux furs and furnishings for an indoor winter wonderland. Tactile additions and lots of plush surfaces will, without a doubt, keep the space cosy rather than cold, while soft lighting will create the perfect ambiance.

How to steal the style:

  1. Origami polar bear, €9, House of Fraser, Houseoffraser.ie
  2. Noel sign, €34.99, Littlewoods Ireland
  3. Tea light holders, €5, Sostrene Grene
  4. Perforated white decoration, €9, Debenhams

Traditional and Colourful

If you’re one to keep up with tradition then you can’t go wrong with eye-popping greens and reds. There's no point in being reserved with this look, so go all out. Embrace the holly and the ivy, crank up the festive tunes, start rocking around the Christmas tree and celebrate with lots of traditional finishes.

  1. Star-shaped green and red bauble mix, €9, Debenhams
  2. Tartan wrapping paper, €4, Marks & Spencer
