Five minutes with... Cork-based interior designer Cathy O'Donoghue

By Aoife Valentine Secor 21-03-2018

DIY and vintage advocate, Cathy ODonoghue is the Cork-based interior designer whos no stranger to a brave interior. Here, she reveals where she loves to eat, hang out and shop, right now

I love shopping at...

Sostrene Grene since they opened a few years ago in Cork. I love the simplicity of their product design and their colour palette within their collections is always perfect. Mother Jones Flea Market has been one of my favourite places for years. I'm a big vintage and mid-century fan so I rarely leave empty handed.

Online, I shop at...

Reesandhunt.ie, the an Irish owned online store that only launched recently and they have some beautiful pieces for the home. I have my eye on a vintage inspired wall hanging on their site at the moment. Etsy.com is a no brainer when you're looking for something specific for your home. I've made so many purchases on Etsy, from a beautiful woven wall hanging from Irish store Weaverella to a 1970s vintage mirror for my own hallway all the way from California.

I love to eat out...

has to be Diva Boutique and Bakery in Ballinspittle for a Huevos Rancheros and a cappuccino. The cafe interior is worth the trip alone and there's a lovely interiors shop right next door called Chalk & Easel. I really like Son of a Bun on McCurtain Street in Cork too. The Chili Burger is amazing if you're into spicy food.

The best place to catch up with friends is…

a cosy pub like The Mutton Lane or The Oval in Cork city.

Not enough people know about…

Mother Jones Flea Market. I think some people are still a bit unsure of how to select vintage pieces for their home. I think starting small with accessories is a good introduction to vintage.

The last interiors item I bought was…

curtains for our spare bedroom. I got them at HomeSense. They were a steal!

The interiors item I’m coveting right now is…

the Butterfly chair. You can purchase it in Interiosity in Cork or on Kian.ie

I like to spend my Sundays at…

at home eating, and drinking tea, followed by a spin to a beach or park before getting fish and chips on the way home.

If I was entertaining guests from another country, I would bring them to…

Kerry. There's no place more beautiful in Ireland than Kerry. Kenmare for great food and Dingle for great pubs. No contest!
